From the M5 - Exeter

About 5 miles after Exeter, the M5 leads straight into the A38. Stay on the A38 keep in one of the 2 outside lanes signposted Plymouth/Totnes. Then up a very steep hill, past Exeter racecourse, followed by some nasty downhill corners.

Keep on the A38, go past the Totnes turn off. The turning you want is marked Marley Head, signposted to Avonwick/South Brent and is 4 turn offs after Totnes/Kingsbridge.

At Marley Head, peel off the A38 and follow the signs to South Brent, ignore all the signs to Diptford at this stage. You will go through the outskirts of South Brent and soon after you will see signs for Avonwick and Totnes. Follow those signs. Just before the Woodpecker Pub (be careful here or you will end up back on the A38) the road is signposed Totnes/Avonwick and there are also signs for the Woodlands Park Adventure Park.

Travel past 2 pubs on your left, the first is the Turtley Corn Mill and the second is the Avon Inn in Avonwick. Past Cousins Bros. Garage on your right and then over a little narrow bridge over the River Avon. Watch for oncoming traffic here.

Immediately after going over the bridge turn right, it is signposted Diptford but this sign tends to get lost in the foliage. Travel along this narrow and winding road for about 500 yards and you will see a pretty cream and green painted cottage on your left with an unmade up lane alongside it.

Our house name (Higher Beneknowle) is set in the grass verge at the side of the lane. Follow the lane up a steep hill past the cream cottage, plus another white house also on your left and a farm on your right. The lane will lead into our driveway.

From the South East

As an alternative to the M4/M5 you may wish to travel a more scenic route via the M25/M3 and then onto the A303. This is the route we prefer (I hate motorways), although it can be slower. North of Honiton, the A303 leads into the A30, then after passing Exeter Airport join the M5 at junction 29. Thereafter follow the instructions above.
